Proton Therapy is highly effective at targeting cancerous cells while limiting damage to surrounding healthy tissues. It is an exciting technology that captures the space age promise of lasers and the exacting science of tumor disintegration. How Proton Therapy Works
Radiation, or x-ray therapy, irradiates the cancerous tissues and the tissues around it because it cannot be highly targeted. In some cases, this causes a lower level of radiation to be used to fight the cancer in order to preserve healthy tissue. Proton Therapy can be very narrowly targeted, just like a laser beam, to irradiate the cancerous tissue without impacting the surrounding healthy tissue. This technology has greatly expanded the ability of physicians to fight cancers that were previously difficult or impossible to reach, such as those in the brain, spine and neck.
